5 Good Things Update 11-02-2009

1) "Falling Back" an hour.
2) I've had the Weighbot app for just about a year now (thanks again for the suggestion, Josh Haley), and I just discovered there are three settings for various graphs and progress information.  Previously, I only knew about two.  I had no idea there would be different graphs if I tilted the iPhone to the left or the right.  On the new one I just discovered, there's a pretty slick progress bar that shows progress towards final weight loss goal and average data for weight loss per day, week, and month.  Currently I'm at 0.5 lbs per day and 3.7 lbs per week loss.  And that's with having two pretty off weekends in a row.  I might actually be able to make this happen.
3) I found a pink cow in Farmville -- thank you David Silva!
4) My hope is that with the recent internet outage and forced downtime in LOTRO, there will be a new spark of excitement when I finally head back.  I'm considering just waiting until the new update is out at the beginning of December though.
5) Icing mobsters.

5 Good Things Update 11-01-2009

1) The Comcast technician came out yesterday and restored my internet service.  It turns out Monday evening they came out to install my neighbor's internet, and at the same time disconnected mine.
2) I was happy to call Carl right as the Vikings clinch the victory today against the Packers -- his excitement was infectious.  Next weekend's supposed to be another 3-day weekend, so I'll try to pop up there and visit again.
3) I watched the new Star Trek film again, and probably will watch it many more times.  It's that good.
4) Today was my first day with Mafia Wars -- it took some getting used to, but I can see the addictiveness of it now.
5) Sunday naps.  :)

Dead Modem Episode 3, or How I Learned to Stop Caring and Love The Net

To recount, episode 1 yesterday, the Internet was down. After calling
Comcast tech support, it was determined my 5-year old cable modem was
the culprit. In episode 2 this morning, after seeing that the
Cupertino branch of the Comcast customer service office was closed, I
acquired a new leased modem from their Sunnyvale branch.

And now episode 3 of the continuing saga. With spanking new modem
connected I called Comcast cares so much tech support again. After
fifteen minutes fiddling with the wires and the tech support guy
running all his diagnostics, the new analysis is that I have a problem
with the cable signal. Which means they have to send a technician out
here. Why wasn't that solution posed on the initial phone call last
night? My guess is that Comcast likes to exhaust every possible user
error before *finally* surrendering a technician to come out here.
You'd think with the amount of moolah they've been getting from me
pretty consistently for the past 5+ years, they could do that on the
first go, instead I get to drive all over the South Bay on my dime.
The tech support guy was understanding, caring (?), of this and added
a $15 credit to my account.

Well, now being a full time worker, the next time I'm available to see
the Comcast technician at my apartment is Saturday. Let's see how bad
the Internet withdraw gets after 5 days.
